It has been such a busy day ! , i set myself up today in the direction to create a few digital papers and when i did sat down i just couldn't stop and i was really amazed at the number of papers that i managed to create! 50 in all!!! here is a a preview of one set that i just finished compling . this one is black and white so it has limitless possibilities ! these can be used anywhere in crafting softwares where you can use overleys , black and white images to create silhouettes and cutouts and so much more! I even created a quick invite by just layering a few of my creations

and here is what i created using these

i just have to submit these to store yet , but just couldn't wait to show it off to you ! :)
oh and did i mention that i created a few clipart sets as well?

All this in one day! yes and besides this i resolved so many issues of my two boys enjoying their summer vacation and splashing in water all day as we had a rainy day here , yes full day the sky pouring after many days of harsh mister sun sipping with straw directly from our heads!

I used to be such a crafter and good at stitching when i was away from this monster computer and pen tablet! and once i started off with drawing and designs somehow the little stitching person in me got lost . Just to revive that i am now trying my hands on stitching and being Good at it! :P will i be successful ... Sure! i will... that's the spirit! :)
So i started looking for stitching patterns for boys , God internet is such a big place but cant a girl find a free pattern for boys shirts!?! or have i missed something ?
anyway i finally found 90 Minute Shirt and i am glad that i did! :)

and then i HAD to make it!
Great thing about being in pakistan is that Paksitan produces best of cotton for tees and all the brands like Levis , Next , CalvinKlien get their stuff done from here . And when i decided to hit the market of tee cloth WOW! i found such treasures!.
Anyway Finally i got myself 2 KGs of cotton for tees .. YES they sell here by KGs in this market it is around $2 per KG!

Tutorial : How to Create a Print Ready Invite with Bleeds

This tutorial will take you through setting up a document , creating bleed area , and working while keeping it in mind , along with some tips and tricks . A very bright sunny simple tutorial.

Source file can also be downloaded which is accessible to our premium members of Aivault (more info at aivault site).

This Final PREVIEW , what we are going to create!

Step 1

Since i am creating a basic 7 inch x 5 inch card i will keep my dimensions of the art board the same.

Create a new document , with crop marks added . I have chosen to have .375 inch crop marks all over , below is a screen shot of my document settings.

Step 2

Create a rectangle , to the full width and height don't forget to add the crop marks all around. in this case i will add .375in x 2 to the file size which is 7x5 inch ie the rectangle size which will be the background of the card will be 7.75in x 5.75 in.

Step 3

My background rectangle now must be perfectly aligned along the crop marks so i am using the Align panel , see below my selection? i am keeping the ALIGN to selection to Align to art-board. After that select align object second option from left and Distribute objects second option from left . Well of course there are many ways to align it perfectly but this is how did this with this design.... :)

Step 4

I start off by creating a random shaped box which will be the text area. I used the pen tool to create it just roughly we can always adjust it once the other elements of design are in place.

Step 5

And now the fun part! adding elements of design , yum yum i chose this cool little vector pack from AiFactory

The sun looks so adorable and full of fun! I just copy and pasted it into the artwork .And decided to create clouds on my own.

Step 6

Select the shape tool and draw some random circles nothing specific here.

Step 7

Hmmm rotating these might make the shape more interesting what do you think?

Step 8

And then just hit unit in the pathfinder tool window. which you can always access through Windows> Path Finder. I love love love this Tool!

Step 9

Give the shape a bit of color. Nice blue color isn't it?

Step 10

And one of my fav is the mesh tool , just click anywhere where you would like to add color . remember if you would like to keep the shape for a later use create and reserve a copy of it as once it is Meshed up you cant add any strokes!. I wish it doesnt do that!! .People at Adobe listen to me please ! Or am i missing something please share if i am....

After you click randomly anywhere shift the color triangles to choose a lighter color.

And repeat

And repeat Simple right! , lovely shading ..!! Yum!

I decided to give the cloud a little bit of transparency , you can choose not to if you like ... i dont mind ;)

Copy , paste , resize

What they say two is a company three is a crowd? .. hmm not really looks ok to me ...

Now i see the Text Area that i created can be scaled further to give text more space. Use the Direct selection tool to shape it up scale it up and hmmm space it up ..:)

I create a copy of this shape and pasted in front

The earlier copy is given a bit of Grey shade ... why?.. just to add a bit of interest...

Type in the text , Whatever!

And a bit of more interest? another cloud added here... you can choose not to if you don't mind and drop any other related graphic from the set.

I used the Pen tool to create some more simple and random shapes ... again for the sake of some more design elements. no rules here.

Step 22

And another , using pen tool it is really easy you must just click pen tool at one point then on another then on another and when you come back to the first click you will see a little "o" near your pointer this means that this last click will close the shape . it is important that all shapes are closed once it goes to the printer. so just keep an eye on open paths .

TIP:- in order to join open paths click on the loose ends of the path using CTRL and then hit CTRL + J to join them

Question :- How do you know there are open paths?

Answer :- let me continue with this tutorial go ahead and find your answer HERE!

Step 23

More random shapes! and yes a bit of transparency.

Select the shapes and transform it to be exactly 7.75 width.

Step 24

Draw a rectangle along the lower path.

Step 25

Create a small rectangle in same height as the green bar below , click and create a copy while you drag it towards left while pressing shift .

Hit CTRL + D to repeat your last step and achieve bars in a row.

Switching to a Wake up early Routine

Me and murad have decided to have our lives better managed...oh finally LOL . So we are trying to tuck our kids in bed ON time that is 8:00 and then clean up the kitchen , throw away the garbage and say our prayers on a timely manner and be in bed by 9:00! well since we implemented this we are trying our best and by the time we switch off the lights it is 10:00 already !. But hey it is a good start . So we wake up now at 5 in the morning and off to a fresh start with kids still in bed and 1 and half hour to say morning prayers , and check our emails . I think it is working for us as most of the client list is overseas and they are usually wrapping up the day when me are getting out of bed :) . Lets see how well this routine goes and what positive changes it would bring in our lives.
As for the kids Mahd n Emad are soon having their pre final exams so little guys are having a tough time. Mahd is having difficulty remembering 4th table , which im a bit surprised about , as he is quite good at maths. I must look for some fun resource sites for him or maybe create some flash cards for him .

With the start of the new year and as we hop on over to the new year , which ofcourse we already have i think it is a good idea to lay down some lines of work for myself also plan out a bit what i will expect from myself. Here is what i expect to do !
1- Get the greatest project of my life!
2- Spend more time with my kids
3- Take Aivault from 5K visitors daily to 10K
4- Manage myself and teach my kids tips to manage life
5- Brand AiFactory and make it biggest resource of Digital Resources! (whats the harm in thinking!)
6- Give more ! ask for less in return
7- Multiply my income by 10!!
8- Take responsibility of at least one orphan.
9- Be a better daughter
10- Be a better wife :)
anyone else willing to share their 10 commitments to self? oh and nearly forgot to write the above illustration is just for fun , i want a brighter sunnier tomorrow and wish the same for everyone in 2010.

My Process of Coloring illustrations using mesh and knife tool

Since my aim here is just to share with you the process of coloring i will not be going much further in the details of drawing process but i will just elaborate my drawing a bit. I start by creating a sketch , then keeping it in front of me as a reference i turn to Flash . And start working with basic shapes circles and lines , . After i am done i export the lines as illustrator 8 document . After opening it up in illustrator i have a clean crisp line which is exactly what i want. Today it is a relatively cold day here in pakistan , it seems that it will rain but still no sign!.

Its been Eid and I've Been Busy

We had Eid celebrated for 3 days ! so the days were quite busy . This Eid is all about Food and Meat ! so me and Murad after tucking the kids in the beds had our little BBQ arranged in our backyard ! and had a fun little party of our own at our backyard. !

Good thing : Recipie for a flu remidi

As per my last post i am under the flu attack but one thing that saved me from flu turning to cough and a longer illness is a recipe which i have found very practical and i thought it is a good thing to share with other too.
For kids all ages over 2
1 tsp honey
pinch cinnamon powder
small pinch (bearable) black pepper
1/2 tsp ginger juice , (can be obtained by crushing 1/2 inch piece of ginger and then pressing between your CLEAN fingers)
Mix and give 2 times a day.

Cinnamon and ginger have expectorant qualities and black pepper and honey help sooth the throat while drying up the flu.
The Ultimate Flu Prevention tea
Mix all the above ingredients , instead of cinnamon powder add 1 stick of it , instead of crushed ginger add 1inch piece of it and a few noncrushed black pepper seeds. Add water bring to a boil and leave to simmer for 10-15 minutes take this tea as many times as you can
it is Very effective. Try it let me know if it worked for you !

I have down with flu and temperature for the last couple of days and i think during this time i have created more colorful graphics than the usual days :) . While browsing my latest find is a very yummy blog which i think i found at just the right time when i am exploring colors and trying to find inspirations. The blog is Simply Hue . Although i haven't browsed through the past posts but the flickr collections of color inspirations are just so very lovely!.
Maybe i will get some more inspiration and create some color swatches from these collections later on.
Latest on the store front has been a few products additions which i would really love to share with you . The one that took a little time for me to create is the Calender 2010 photoshop brushes set.

Creating a calender is just so easy with this one with unlimited possibilities! and if you are a bit crafty soul , print them out , cut them out punch a hole on top and hang it anywhere!

While coming up for a new clipart set or stock image for stock illustration sites One of my biggest challenges had been the color scheme . And mostly i have followed me instincts and my own eye.
While during the past week i have found many inspirational color swatches over at kuler which i would love to use in my next creation. And since many or few of you might know that i create cliparts for my own store AiFactory and for stock agnecies i need to follow some inspiration . So i am starting to challenge myself with color schemes . I hope to create more thematic , colorful and lively images while following these challenges i do hope that i will also sharpen my eye for color.
So here is the deal ! I will challenge myself and you the reader to create any form of creation ! it can be an imagery , a graphic design project , a clipart or illustration project , a scrapbooking project OR any creative media! . You and me will have a week to come up with something and post the link over here !.
I am not expecting at the moment that many people will be interested in this but for me this is a quest to exploring colors and sharpening my skills . Yes! in my part of the world we are still facing electricity blackouts , and this is just too frustrating! . Just placed my kids to bed and have plenty of stuff to do!
Finished shifting the AIF official blog from the url visualbitts.com . Things were getting too confusing with too many url names to handle . Poor Visualbitts has already seen three concept changes ! .

Busy but not so busy back to school , ramadan and stuff!

Oh my! it has been a week since i have posted anything! , on this blog maybe not much at all beside work.Kids school starts set 2nd and i still have to rush and get the books and with that ramadan is arriving as well , Sunday will be first ramadan and we will be fasting and having blast off time cooking , baking and eating!. Yay!!!.....probably more of food stuff coming on the cliparts store :).
Yesterday was my creation day and i created a fun back to school set of illustrations!althoghy my drive is already full of back to school vectors , i wanted to create more fresh stuff here is a preview of the new set.

And I had to take off stuff of two of designers from the store as they had some issues from their associates which obviously they should have confirmed with before submitting to my store. AiF is very partiular about copyright issues and when these images are submitted everytime with each image submission artist signs a form which states clearly that they should have full right on the file submisssion and AiF will not be responsible . So hopefully in the future artists will read the terms of submission
And with this i have a new project in hand which is quite interesting , it is an interface design for a Gui application as well as a logo . So i will be working for a while on this quite fun isnt it!!

Yes! we are getting ready for the official launch of Aifactory - The design factor and we are seeking designers to join us on this quest . Please note designer seats are limited . It is not a site with 100 or 200 contributors we are seeking artists who are seeking opportunities online to build up a name and repute as a brand. And not all applicants will be approved but still it is worth it! . Designers are being taken in with a whooping 80% commission rate. AND artists who join us within August and upload at least 20 approved products are given comission rate of 90% till the end of Dec!! how cool is that?!! I had so much fun creating the header for AiFactory site . In order to create the header i got lost in creating some cute brush sets . Starting off with illustrator then ending up creating brushes and then just splattering around the header with brushes . I really didn't think of any directions i just simply had fun while creating it ... let me know what you think!

Today has been extensive brush creation day and finally i ended up making two brush sets.which i will post about hopefull tomorrow. While i am at it i created a new vintage frames brush set and just went on playing around with it . Here is a little sneak peak using my son's pictures
